Fan park finale as World Cup ends

9 July 2010

The dream may be over for England but the party spirit is alive and kicking at the Hyundai Fan Park.

As the world cup reaches its exciting climax, giant screens at Castlefield are relaying the remaining action from South Africa, so people can still cheer on their favourite team and enjoy the biggest football fixture of the year.

The Fan Park will close in style after its successful run, with cool vibes at an afternoon beach party between 2.00pm and 6.00pm, before Key 103 take to the stage for DJ sets and a live performance by X-Factor singing sensation Laura White.

Councillor Mike Amesbury, Manchester City Council's executive member for culture and leisure said: "The fan park has been a great asset to the city during the World Cup. There has been a tremendous atmosphere and although England sadly didn't make it through to the final stages fans have still flocked to watch matches and I'm sure Sunday will be no exception. People in Manchester are well-known for their love of football so it's great for everyone to be able to congregate at the fan park and watch the final together."

With the only beach in Manchester bringing a touch of Copacabana to Castlefield, football fans and neutrals will be able to sit back and relax in the sunshine (weather permitting!) and will also enjoy the prizes and giveaways on the day. Pre-match coverage will also be shown on the screens to build excitement and anticipation before kick-off at 7.30pm.
