Bite into Manchester’s Big Lunch
13 July 2010
Longsight Market will be the setting for the Longsight Big Sunday Lunch on Sunday 18 July and everyone is welcome to come along and tuck in.
Street parties are taking place up and down the country as part of the national Big Lunch campaign encouraging neighbours to come together and enjoy themselves as a community.
The national event is coordinated by Cornwall's Eden Project to combat isolation in communities and mistrust among neighbours.
Locally, it is part of Manchester's Proud Of Manchester campaign, which encourages residents to celebrate life in Manchester and get to know their neighbours.
Longsight's event on Sunday promises to be a fun-packed day featuring delicious food, activities and entertainment. Show off your culinary skills in the cookery demonstrations, learn how to grow your own and enjoy a wide variety of delicious dishes reflecting the rich culture of the area, including Asian, Chinese and English fayre.
There will also be a stage with live entertainment, a range of stalls including unusual arts and crafts, football coaching and guest appearances from Moonchester and Moonbeam, the Manchester City FC mascots.
Councillor Paul Andrews, Manchester City Council's executive member for neighbourhood services said: "The Proud Of campaign is in its second year and is going from strength to strength. The support from local communities has been tremendous with lots of people getting involved in the various activities and I'm looking forward to welcoming as many people as possible to the Big Lunch on Sunday.
"Longsight Market is the ideal place for the events to be focused around as it has such a vibrant and lively atmosphere and what better excuse to get together with friends and family than to enjoy a great day out and experience some of the best food that Manchester has to offer."
The Longsight Big Sunday Lunch will take place on Sunday 18 July 1pm until 8pm at Longsight Market, Dickenson Road, Longsight.
