Cash in on Wythenshawe’s money advice week

2 August 2010

How to make the most of your money is the theme of a week-long event in Wythensahwe.

Money Week will be held from Monday 16 to Friday 20 August and has been organised by Manchester City Council, Willow Park Housing Trust and Parkway Green Housing Trust.

The aim of the event is to discuss all things financial and to give residents professional advice with anything from benefits to savings accounts and how to budget effectively.

The event also fits into the council's Helping Hands campaign, designed to help residents through the recession.

During the week, experts including staff from Moneymadeclear - a financial advice service from the Government - will be manning stalls in the town centre and giving confidential 'money makeovers' for anyone who is interested.

Councillor Glynn Evans, Executive Member for Adult Services at Manchester City Council, said: "Learning how to get the best return on your finances is something that can benefit us all. This week gives residents the chance to ask specific questions about their own situations, rather than just listen to general advice."

An added dimension to the week is a 'fashion on a budget' course, running at the Benchill Community Centre. Youngsters on the course will be shown how to adapt their own clothes and will also be taken to a fabric shop in Manchester to buy material and accessories to make or customise wardrobes.

The fashion course will culminate in a catwalk to display all the outfits.
