Residents invited to comment on new schools site

7 September 2010

Manchester City Council is inviting North Manchester residents to share their views about plans to build two new academies.

These will be on land including the Blackley site of the current Creative and Media Academy (boys), formerly North Manchester High School for Boys.

Manchester Creative and Media Academies (two single sex academies) opened last year in the former premises of North Manchester High School for Boys in Blackley and North Manchester High School for Girls in Moston.

The plans are for brand new buildings for both Creative and Media Academies to be located together on a single site bounded by the existing boys academy site to the south and Victoria Avenue East to the north.

Prior to the plans being submitted to a formal planning application in late September, residents are being given the opportunity to see detailed plans of the suggested site and give feedback.

The new schools designs will be on display from Monday 13th September to Friday 24th September (not weekends) from 9am to 6pm at:

Manchester Creative and Media Academy (boys),
Main Academy reception
Hinchley Road (off Charlestown Road)
Blackley
Manchester M9 7FS

and

Manchester Creative and Media Academy (Girls)
Visitors reception bungalow
Brookside Road
Moston
Manchester M40 9QJ

In addition to the plans being displayed, members of the project team and academy staff will be available to answer questions and provide further information at the following venues and times:

Manchester creative and Media Academy (boys)
Friday, 17th September from 4pm to 7pm
Tuesday, 21st September from 4pm to 7pm

Manchester Creative and Media Academy (girls)
Monday, 20th September 4pm to 7pm
Wednesday, 22nd September 4pm to 7pm

Comment forms will be available for the public to provide their thoughts and feedback.

Councillor Sheila Newman, Manchester City Council's Executive Member for Children's Services, says: "Manchester Creative and Media Academies have been open a year and are already making a hugely positive and significant impact on the students and the local community as a whole. The new state of the art facilities will help transform the way students learn and offer them relevant and practical work opportunities, allow them to gain life experience and arm them with more choice and the necessary skills for when they leave school."
