Splashing time on the way for all at Levenshulme Pools

23 September 2010

A splashing time is on the way for all at Levenshulme Pools as the work currently underway to improve the centre nears completion.

The work is being carried out by the Council and Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust and will make a significant improvement to the facilities there.

The refurbishment began in 2009 with the creation of new shower areas, toilets in both pool areas, improvements to the gym, essential roof replacement, other structural works and improved lighting.

Work has continued this year with an internal refit of poolside cabins and internal decoration to transform the look of the pool halls.

Other improvements on the way include new signage to welcome people to the centre, further internal decoration, and additional maintenance work to the roof and other external areas.

Councillor Mike Amesbury, Executive Member Culture and Leisure, Manchester City Council, said: "Over £250,000 will have been invested at Levenshulme Swimming Pools as part of an ongoing investment into indoor leisure provision across the city.

"It's great that we can continue, even in these difficult times, to make improvements like these so that everyone can have access to quality leisure facilities."

Rebecca Livesey, Interim Chief Executive of the Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust, said: "Repair and maintenance continues to be a priority for us as we continue to invest in improving the quality of our leisure facilities working in partnership with the City Council."
