MediaCo Outdoor wins Manchester City Council outdoor media contract
4 October 2010
Manchester City Council has awarded its contract for outdoor advertising to MediaCo Outdoor, one of the industry’s newest but fastest growing companies.
The 10-year contract gives MediaCo the right to develop advertising displays on sites owned by the Council and currently consists of more than 50 locations across the city including the existing M structures.
The Council will share profits with MediaCo and has negotiated 'free use' of the sites to advertise key council messages and provide public information in a cost effective way to residents.
The agreement will see improvements to the Council's advertising portfolio including a 'less is more' approach, reducing the number of overall sites across the city while modernising existing locations and adding a number of iconic sites at gateway locations. Some sites will be updated to a digital format to meet growing demand for high quality, cutting edge, advertising space.
There will be bespoke sites allocated to charities and local businesses at discounted rates.
Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council, said: "This is an excellent deal for the people of Manchester which is not costing the Council anything and will generate extra income.
"It also spells substantial investment in improving the advertising sites which will ensure that income is maximised in the years ahead."
Mark Wardle, Managing Director of MediaCo Outdoor, said: "Manchester is one of Europe's most important cities and we are excited that Manchester City Council has awarded us this key contract. We are determined to create a portfolio that adds real value to the UK Out Of Home advertising market and look forward to working in partnership to develop what we hope to be the most modern, innovative and compelling large format advertising proposition rivalling any world city."
MediaCo Outdoor was created by leading large format print company MediaCo and former Clear Channel Head of Pinnacle Development Joe Arshed.
