Event for parents to find out more about apprenticeships for 14-19 year olds

26 October 2010

Parents get the chance to find out more about apprenticeships for young people next week at a special event open to all at the City of Manchester Stadium on Thursday 4 November from 5:30 - 8 pm.

More than 25 different companies that offer apprenticeships for young people will be represented at the event and will be providing information about the opportunities and benefits available to young people.

Apprentices and their parents will also be speaking during the evening about why they chose an apprenticeship, the advantages of earning whilst learning, and to explain how their own careers have progressed.

Companies attending the event include Pennine Trust, Toni and Guy Hairdressing, De Vere Hotel Group, BT, Zenos (ITC), accountants Grant Thornton, GB Builders, Ash Dental Practice, Bunzi Healthcare, Vision and Media, and the Michael John Training Academy.

Advice and information will also be available during the evening from the National Apprenticeship Services, Connexions, and Aimhigher.

The event takes place in the Citizen Suite and the 1894 Suite at the City of Manchester Stadium. It is free to attend and there is free car parking at the stadium. Local bus services also stop just outside the main gate.

Councillor Sameem Ali, Executive Member for Employment and Skills, Manchester City Council, said: "Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to learn a trade from the bottom up with an employer and to earn whilst they learn.

"Next week's event provides the perfect opportunity for parents and young people to find out more about the benefits of apprenticeships as an alternative choice post 16 for those pupils who do not want to continue with purely academic studies."
