Red carpet treatment for Manchester pupils

23 November 2010

Twenty four young film makers from primary schools in Manchester were chauffeur driven in limousines to a red carpet event on Monday (22 November).

The event marked the release of the Secret Recipe and Barry-Bob the Lonely Plumber.

The Oscar-style presentation was the finale of weeks of work with 9 to 11 year olds from Harpur Mount Primary School in Harpurhey and Crosslee Community Primary School in Blackley.

The children worked alongside staff from Screen Play Education to produce The Secret Recipe, a 'Scooby Doo' style adventure, at Harpur Mount and Barry-Bob the Lonely Plumber, a comedy drama at Crosslee.

Manchester City Council's Executive Member for Children's Services, Councillor Sheila Newman said: "This is an excellent initiative, encouraging youngsters to think creatively and follow the process through to actually making their own film. Monday was a day to remember for them, their families and the rest of the school."

Andrea Wadsworth, Headteacher at Crosslee Primary School said; "The film project has been a fabulous opportunity for the pupils involved and the school as a whole. It's given them the chance to experience all aspects of film making and ignited their aspirations to be our stars of the future!"

Paul Hind from Screen Play Education, said: "The children were very inventive and imaginative. They came up with a whole range of ideas and rose to the challenge of working together."

Both the short films were shown to an invited audience at 10.30 on Monday at the Showcase Cinema on Hyde Road in Gorton.Note to editors:
