29 November 2010
Clayton Youth Centre is set to reopen next week on Wednesday 1st December after a £700,000 revamp to upgrade its facilities for the benefit of local young people.
The Centre, on Clayton Street, in Clayton has been completely refurbished and now boasts a fantastic new heated indoor sports hall, and a brand new computer zone complete with state-of-the-art computer technology.
A brand new kitchen has also been installed at the centre - donated and fitted by Mitie Property Service - which will allow the centre to continue to offer workshops with young people around basic food preparation and hygiene.
Other refurbishments include a new roof on the main building and sports hall, new windows, external doors, new flooring, new toilets, a full electrical upgrade, new roller shutters, new security and fire system, and a new perimeter fence. The centre has also been completely redecorated inside.
Activities available at the centre include a Junior youth club for children aged 8 to 11 years, and a Senior youth club for young people aged 13 - 19. Young people can also access careers advice through the Connexions Service at the centre, and take part in the FC United Apprenticeship Scheme that gives 16-19 year olds a chance to gain sports leader accreditation.
The centre will be officially reopened next Wednesday at 1 pm. An informal drop in for young people to come along and take a look at their new centre takes place from 2 pm.
Councillor Sameem Ali, Manchester City Council's Executive Member Employment and Skills, said: "The youth centre looks amazing now, it is a fantastic new facility for young people living in the area and I'm sure it is going to be very well used by them."
