Government gives green light for Brunswick regeneration

Residents in Brunswick have been celebrating the Government’s decision to allow regeneration plans for the area to go ahead.
The £118million private finance initiative received government backing last week.
Under the proposals 600 council homes will be modernised and 200 new homes will be built. The layout of the neighbourhood will also be improved with new link roads and upgraded shops.
There will also be a new local housing office, and a 60-bed sheltered accommodation facility.
Manchester City Council's Executive Member for Housing, Councillor Paul Andrews said: "It's excellent news that this regeneration scheme can go ahead.
Existing homes will be modernised and upgraded with new bathrooms and kitchens and there will also be a building programme of new homes.
"This will transform the area and vastly improve the quality of life of the people who live in Brunswick."
In order to make way for the improvements some properties will be demolished but tenants will be re-housed during the re-development and will be offered a replacement home in the area.
