Library improvements set to continue

1 December 2010

As Manchester City Council continues with its pledge to support local libraries, Didsbury and New Moston Libraries are both in line for a makeover.

As part of an ongoing programme of improvements to libraries across the city, Didsbury Library will benefit from new flooring and full re-decoration, while New Moston Library will be completely re-painted inside and out, have brand new lighting installed, and receive upgrades to the shelving  and a new library counter.

Councillor Mike Amesbury, Manchester City Council's executive member for culture and  leisure said: "We are seeing a marked increase in the numbers of people using libraries across Manchester and are committed to providing a first-class service. We have opened four new libraries in the city this year and are continuing with the programme of improvements and expansion in services that our libraries provide to make them a useful and relevant resource for everyone."

Work is likely to commence on both libraries in the new year and library members are advised to check in their local library for updates about possible temporary closures.

While the libraries undergo improvements, members can use any other public library in the city.

Other libraries in Manchester to have recently benefited from upgrades include Burnage, Beswick, Fallowfield, Gorton, Levenshulme, Longsight and Withington.
