Construction firms appointed to the third NW Construction Hub Framework
25 January 2011
Issued on behalf of the North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership (NWIEP)
Recognised as an example of best practice for collaborative working by Constructing Excellence, Manchester City Council (MCC) have led the development of arrangements that represent a better deal for public sector clients in the North West.
As the North West Construction Hub (NWCH), part of the North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership (NWIEP), MCC have been able to use their experience, developed over the last seven years, to contribute as a key player of the National Improvement and Efficiency Partnership for the Built Environment sharing their knowledge and best practice to the benefit of partners across the country.
The NWCH Low Value Framework will enable all local authorities and other public sector organisations in the North West to deliver construction projects up to £500k with the hub partners. It has been demonstrated that projects, delivered through well managed collaborative arrangements, such as the NWCH, can deliver savings on construction projects in the region of 10%, as evidenced by MCC frameworks, while consistently being delivered on time and within budget.
A key dynamic of the North West Framework are the sub regional Lots for Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire, allowing each to focus on delivering solutions that benefit the communities for which they represent.
Working in collaboration with constructor partners through the Framework will enable public sector organisations and the construction companies to work in partnership to deliver projects more efficiently, on time and on budget, with an enhanced focus on quality and added value outcomes to support local communities.
John Lorimer, Manchester City Council Capital Programme Director and NWCH Lead said: "I am pleased with the award of the Low Value Framework, completing the suite of North West Construction Hub Frameworks.
"At Manchester we have been driving savings and benefits from collaborative working for over seven years. Now this Framework, along with the other Construction Hub arrangements, will allow all public sector clients to achieve their own efficiency savings, eliminating costly procurement exercises for individual projects, reducing the time it takes to build a project and improve the quality of work. Working in collaboration with our partners also enables other benefits such as training opportunities and apprenticeships that are not obtainable through traditional procurement methods".
