Running for Lord Mayor’s Charity
18 April 2011
Chris Bird, Chair of the Fundraising Committee for the Lord Mayor’s Charity, is set to run across Greater Manchester in ten days in a bid to raise £10,000 for the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal Trust.
The 100 mile journey will begin at Albert Square on Monday 18 April when Chris will run through the city to Stockport Town Hall. On consecutive days Chris will continue to run from town hall to town hall visiting Trafford, Salford, Wigan, Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Oldham and Tameside before finishing back in Manchester on Wednesday 27 April where he will be greeted by the Lord Mayor at 11.00 am on the steps of the Town Hall.
The Lord Mayor of Manchester's Charity Appeal Trust helps to alleviate the effects of poverty within the city. One of the highest profile activities of the trust is the financial support it provides to many under-privileged families enabling them to enjoy a modest but desperately needed holiday.
Councillor Mark Hackett, Lord Mayor of Manchester, said, "The Lord Mayor's Charity Appeal Trust is focused on supporting those members of the community that need help.
"Events like this raise the profile of the charity and the more money we raise the more support we can offer. I wish Chris the best of luck and thank him for his support and dedication to the charity."
Chris Bird, Chair of the Lord Mayor Charity Appeal Trust, said, "This is Manchester's charity and I hope every step I run will help generate much-needed funds for important community initiatives.
"This challenge will help me achieve a personal goal both for the Lord Mayor's Appeal and for myself. I hope that by demonstrating my commitment to the charity, others will follow and see how the appeal can help and support hundreds of families and individuals in the city."
