Pull up a deck chair and bask in a week of sea-side themed events in Wythenshawe town centre, culminating in a ‘royal honeymoon’ street party on Saturday 30 April.
From Saturday (23 April) Wythenshawe town centre will be transformed into a postcard-style resort from bygone times, complete with sandpits, deck chairs, bunting, outdoor dining, market stalls and donkeys.
The week of events has been funded and organised by Wythenshawe Forum and the town centre management team, with support from Manchester City Council.
Children's entertainment will include trampolines, competitions and an Easter egg hunt.
And, then to finish the week, a street party will take place on Saturday 30 April - which residents have now dubbed the 'honeymoon' party - as a tribute to the Royal Wedding the day before. The party will start at 10am and ends at 4pm.
There's a nostalgic theme at the street party, with cream teas, donkey and carriage rides, brass bands and old-time dancing.
Anne Taylor, Wythenshawe Regeneration Co-ordinator at Manchester City Council, said: "The week of entertainment has been designed to provide good family fun and tap into the area's strong sense of community. The town centre and the Forum have earned a good reputation for staging events - and our post-wedding street party seems particularly apt, especially as the royal couple were rumoured to be considering part of their honeymoon in the UK."
