Constructing a place in Manchester Day history

31 May 2011

Construction giants in Manchester are lending their support to this year’s Manchester Day event.

Major construction firms Laing O'Rourke and Lend Lease are joining the founding sponsors Siemens to take part in this unique and spectacular event which takes place this year on Father's day, Sunday 19 June.

Also joining the sponsor family for the first time are Wates Construction and GB Building.

The parade theme is Voyage of Discovery and already dozens of groups from across the city are working on exciting projects to bring the parade alive. And sponsors Laing O'Rourke will also be providing employees with technical expertise at the community workshops to help groups bring their creations to life.

Councillor Mike Amesbury, executive member for culture and leisure at Manchester City Council said: "Having these high profile sponsors on board illustrates the esteem in which the parade is now viewed by business. We are delighted to welcome on board the sponsor family Laing O'Rourke and Lend Lease along with Wates Construction and GB Building. They are big employers with a commitment to the city and their sponsorship demonstrates how important this event now is in the cultural calendar of the city."

Callum Tuckett from Laing O'Rourke said "Over the past 50 years, we have delivered some of Manchester's most iconic buildings and projects; helping to shape our local communities. We are therefore delighted to support Manchester Day Parade - an event that quite rightly celebrates this vibrant city along with the people that live, work and visit it."

Julian Daniel, Lend Lease UK's Executive General Manager for Construction in England and Wales, added: "Lend Lease is extremely proud to be part of the community and to make this commitment to the city. We believe it's a company's duty to contribute positively to places where our employees live and work and look forward to helping ensure this event builds on the spectacular success of last year's inaugural parade."
