Manchester raises the flag for Armed Forces Day

On Monday 20 June, The Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Harry Lyons JP, will lead the start of Manchester’s official celebrations for Armed Forces Day when he attends the raising of the armed forces flag.
The Lord Mayor will be accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant and the Greater Manchester Garrison Commanding Officer in Albert Square as the flag is hosted and flown from the roof of the Town Hall at 11.00am.
Armed Forces Day is a national celebration and the armed forces flag will be raised simultaneously in cities across the country.
Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Harry Lyons JP, said "It is a privilege to be able to honour the servicemen and women of the armed forces on behalf of the City.
"I look forward to Armed Forces Day and the opportunity to pay tribute to the sacrifices and achievements of all the current members and veterans of the Armed Forces. "
The celebrations for Armed Forces Day will conclude on Saturday 25 June at Piccadilly Gardens with a Veterans Parade of Standards at 11.30am and a host of family friendly activities from 11am-5pm. The Royal Artillery Band and other groups will be performing throughout the afternoon.
