Profit from Wythenshawe's money advice week

How to make the most of your money is the theme of a week-long event in Wythenshawe.

Money Week starts today (Monday 19 September) to Friday 23 September and has been organised by Manchester City Council, Willow Park Housing Trust and Parkway Green Housing Trust.

The aim of the event is to discuss all things financial and to give residents professional advice on saving accounts, benefits, budgeting, debt issues and illegal money lending.

The event also fits into the council's Helping Hands campaign, designed to help residents through the recession.

During the week, financial experts will be manning stalls in a marquee in the town centre and giving confidential 'money makeovers' for anyone who is interested.

Councillor Jeff Smith, Executive Member for Finance and Human Resources at Manchester City Council, said: "Learning how to get the best return on your finances is something that can benefit us all. This week gives residents the chance to ask specific questions about their own situations, rather than just listen to general advice."

During last year's Money Week, 250 Wythenshawe residents received money guidance and support from Manchester Credit Union, Money Advice Service and Manchester City Council. A further 35 people were referred to directly to advice agencies.
