CBeebies presenter leads Tree Party festivities
3 October 2011
A children’s TV star, a falconry display and tree climbing sessions are just a few of the attractions on offer at this weekend’s Tree Party.
Families are being invited to a fun filled day of woodland festival activities at the Heaton Park event aimed at promoting the importance of trees in the city.
The fun-filled day of woodland activities takes place at the park's farm centre from noon until 4pm on Saturday 8 October.
With special guest Phil Gallagher - better known as CBeebies' Mister Maker - on hand to help, plus a birds of prey display from Vale Royal Falconry, there's something for the whole family to enjoy.
Youngsters can put on a harness and have a go at tree climbing, try the Acorn-athlon, find out about the world of creepy crawlies during a bug hunt or get creative in the nature crafts area.
Visitors will also be able to plant trees of their own or browse the woodland marketplace for gifts and local produce.
The event is being held as part of the City Council's Proud Of Manchester programme, which celebrates life in the city's neighbourhoods and encourages residents to take pride in the city's parks and green spaces.
Councillor Nigel Murphy, Manchester City Council's Executive Member for the Environment said: "Trees play a vital role in making Manchester a green and attractive city to live and this weekend's event will be a wonderful opportunity for families to out about the importance of these green lungs.
"This has been an excellent event in previous years and I'd like to urge families to come along to Heaton Park this weekend's Tree Party."
