Victorious Valerie is BMX champ

13 year-old Valerie Zebrokova, from Fallowfield, is celebrating having won both The BMX National Series 2011 and The British BMX Championships 2011 in her age group (female 13-14 years).
Valerie, a pupil at Parrs Wood High School, showed off her skills and secured victory in the final two rounds of the BMX National Series held at the Platt Fields Park BMX track on 3 and 4 September. Three weeks later she went on to win the British BMX Championships in Cheddar on 24 and 25 September.
Valerie has been riding at the Platt Fields BMX track since age 11 and is a member of Manchester BMX Club. She has trained at the track at least twice a week since it opened in 2008.
Platt Fields Park BMX track is run by Manchester City Council, in the three years since opening the track has already produced both a National and British Champion.
Manchester City Council provides support to Valerie through the Champions' Charter grant scheme - the scheme helps fund talented athletes living in Manchester. Valerie is also sponsored by Redline Bicycles.
Overall, Manchester BMX Club came second out of 56 clubs riding in the BMX National Series, with several other riders from the club also achieving top spots in their age groups.
Valerie Zebrokova said, "I'm happy about all my achievements this year and I would like to thank Redline, Manchester BMX Club, Manchester City Council and my Mum and Dad, without which none of this would have happened."
Councillor Rosa Battle, Assistant Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, said, "I'd like to offer Valerie my congratulations, it's great to see all her hard work reaping such impressive results.
"Valerie's success goes to show our investment in the city's world class sporting facilities, along with our suport for local sportsmen and women, really does produce fantastic results.
"I hope the example set by Valerie will encourage others to get active and get involved with one of Manchester's many sports clubs."
