Saturday 12 November 2011 will mark Withington Leisure Centre’s centenary.
To mark the momentous occasion of turning 100 the centre will be throwing open its door for an exciting programme of free fun and sporty sessions.
From 10am - 4pm Withington Leisure Centre will be celebrating its birthday with a plethora of free activities, including Zumba classes, a bouncy castle, inflatable fun sessions in the pool, face painting, gym sessions and at 2.30pm an enthralling history talk organised by the Withington Civic Society.
Councillor Mike Amesbury, executive member for culture and leisure, said, "Withington Leisure Centre has been serving the community for 100 years, and it's wonderful to see it marking this milestone with such a fun day. I would like to encourage all local people to get involved in the celebration and thank everyone for their dedication and enthusiasm to mark this special occasion."
Rebecca Livesey, Interim Chief Executive at the Manchester Sport and Leisure Trust commented, said, "We're hoping to have a great community celebration event in honour of the swimming pools presence for 100 years in the heart of the community. My thanks go out to the on-site team and the Withington Civic Society who have worked so hard to pull together an amazing timetable of activities."
The Chair of the Civic Society, Roger Smith, said, "One of our most historic and treasured buildings and facilities in Withington celebrates its 100th birthday this month. Withington Civic Society are partnering with Manchester Sport & Leisure Trust, who manage and operate the Baths, to be a part of this celebration event. We thank the managers, on site team and volunteers and welcome the community to join us in this very special birthday event."
The Withington Leisure Centre, Burton Road, will celebrate its 100th birthday on Saturday 12 November from 10am-4pm.
