Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carol Concert: Deck the Great Hall with boughs of holly
24 November 2011
Feel the true Christmas spirit at the Lord Mayor’s annual Christmas Carol Concert, taking place at Manchester Town Hall on Thursday 1 December.
The building's splendid Great Hall will be filled with the festive spirit as the Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Harry Lyons JP invites visitors to share some Christmas cheer with a selection of traditional Christmas carols and hymns at the annual carol concert. The concert is free of charge and a wonderful way to begin the Christmas season.
This year, the Dean of Manchester Rogers Govender will introduce the items following the Lord Mayor's Christmas Message. Carols will be performed by the Manchester Cathedral Voluntary Choir and Saint John Fisher and Saint Thomas More RC Primary School Choir from Benchill. They will be accompanied by the Blackley Brass Band.
Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Harry Lyons JP said, "Amongst all the hustle and bustle of December it is easy to loose sight of the true meaning of Christmas. The carol service is the perfect way to reconnect with the true festive spirit.
"The service is always tremendous and gives everyone the chance to join in with the carols and experience some real Christmas cheer."
Councillor Pat Karney Manchester's Christmas spokesperson said,"The Christmas Carol Concert is always a highlight of the city's festive programme and really expresses the enduring spirit of Christmas.
"The service means a lot to many people who really appreciate the chance to come together and join in with the carols."
After carols such as O Little Town Of Bethlehem and Ding Dong! Merrily on High!, and the hymns including Once in Royal David's City and Come All Ye Faithful, festivities will be concluded with tea, coffee, and, of course, mince pies.
The Lord Mayor's Carol Concert takes place Thursday 1 December 7.00pm until 8.00pm in the Great Hall at Manchester Town Hall. Everybody is welcome and entry is free.
