Manchester will thank all members of the armed forces, past and present, when it celebrates Armed Forces Day on Saturday 30 June in Piccadilly Gardens.
Between 11am-5pm Piccadilly Gardens will be filled with live music, family friendly activities and food stalls. The area will be transformed into a picnic area, allowing members of the public to relax and enjoy the day in the sunshine.
At 11.30am there will be a Veterans' Static Parade of Standards followed by music throughout the afternoon provided by a military band and a dance band.
Other activities will include an Armed Forces Day craft market, RAF flight simulator, an army climbing tower and the chance to take part in military fitness sessions.
Piccadilly Gardens will also host a picnic-style seating area with an array of food and drink concessions.
And on top of all that there will be inflatable table football, a penalty shoot-out competition and circus skills workshops to enjoy.
Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Elaine Boyes said, “Armed Forces Day is a great opportunity for Manchester to show its appreciation to all the service men and women who have served their county and those who continue to do so”
“With such a variety of activities taking place in Piccadilly Gardens this year there’s sure to be something to suit all tastes.
“Armed Forces Day will build on the success of last year’s event and I am extremely proud that the City is once again displaying the gratitude we owe to members of the Armed Forces, both past and present.”
