Manchester City Council welcomes back the Lord Mayor

The Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Elaine Boyes, returned to the Town Hall to chair a meeting of the council on Wednesday 11 July despite being in a wheelchair due to a broken leg.

The Lord Mayor has recently taken time out from her duties after she was hit by a car crossing Ashton Old Road, Openshawe, on Friday 22 June. Having spent time in hospital recuperating the council meeting was the first time the Lord Mayor had resumed her duties.

In her absence the Lord Mayor’s duties were performed by Deputy Lord Mayor Naeem-Ul Hassan.

Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Elaine Boyes, said, "I’d like to thank everyone for their support and kind words following my accident. It meant a great deal to receive encouragement and concern from both my fellow councillors and the people of Manchester.”

"Of course, special thanks also needs to be given to my family, especially the Lady Mayoress who has been fantastic staying with me and helping out at home. 

"I’d like to reassure everyone that I am steadily recovering and will return to my full duties as Lord Mayor as soon as possible.”
