Stockport Road resurfacing will be smooth sailing for motorists

Large sections of Stockport Road (A6) in Levenshulme will be resurfaced throughout August to remove potholes and create a smooth driving surface for drivers.

As one of the busiest road routes into the city, Stockport Road will be closed to motorists in three sections to minimise disruption to road users and local businesses – and will remain open at peak times.

To avoid causing severe delays our works are planned to be done during off peak periods including weekends and nights. With the noisiest work scheduled for the weekends rather than at night, as we are trying to keep disturbance to residents down to a minimum. Stockport Road will only be closed to traffic during working hours.

The city council’s successful bid for government’s Local Highway Maintenance Challenge Fund will allow road resurfacing from the Broom Lane junction of Stockport Road through to the Matthews Lane. (Full details below)

Cllr Rosa Battle, Manchester City Council’s executive member for environment, said: “We know that potholes are a big issue for residents and this funding has given us the opportunity to act on what you have been telling us. We fixed 120,000 potholes last year, but this scheme allows us to improve an entire stretch of road in one go.

“We have chosen the summer holidays to do this work to keep disruption to a minimum and a lot of work is being completed over night. Stockport Road is one of the busiest roads in the city and this improvement work will also make it one of the most popular with drivers!”
