Free city centre parking on offer this weekend

Shoppers and visitors to Manchester city centre are being given the chance to enjoy free on-street parking this weekend.

Parking will be free in all on-street metered bays in zones three and four of the city centre, from midday onwards on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 January 2017.

The offer includes parking bays on streets near Piccadilly Station, in Castlefield and near Whitworth Street. Stickers will be attached on machines next to bays where parking will be free.

Manchester City Council is making the offer to thank motorists for bearing with them while major infrastructure works are carried out, which will radically improve transport across the city.

The ongoing works are part of the £1billion Project Grow, which will this year deliver city centre infrastructure improvements including the Metrolink Second City Crossing, Oxford Road bus priority measures, six new and better cycle routes into the city centre and major rail improvements.

The Metrolink Second City Crossing will be opening in early Spring, with the Oxford Road bus priority works completed by April.

Councillor Rosa Battle, Manchester City Council’s Executive Member for the Environment, said: “Following the success of last weekend's free city centre parking offer, we are pleased to extend this for a further weekend, to ensure that more motorists benefit.
“This is a great way to support our many city centre visitors and retailers and will encourage more people to take advantage of everything the city centre has to offer, as we continue to work towards completion of the major transport infrastructure projects which will keep our growing city moving for decades to come."
