Service Review - Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver Training
On 30 August 2011, the Licensing & Appeals Committee considered a report in relation to  hackney carriage and private hire driver training. The committee agreed that a review of driver training  was required in relation to both existing and new drivers.

A number of key subject areas have been highlighted that may be beneficial in particular:

o Customer Care - Conflict management
  o Disability awareness
o Driver Assessment Agency, (National driving skill assessment) Full details can be found on the Businesslink Website
o Legislative requirements - [Requirements of licensing conditions, policies and the implications of failure to abide by the legal requirements]
  o Topography (route knowledge)
The Committee also asked Officers to

o Include driving skills and parking enforcement / awareness as part of this process.
o Put a framework together then come back to committee with their proposals

In addition to the on line consultation, and within the twelve week consultation period, a driver focus group will also be commissioned to seek drivers opinions as to the key elements required of a driver training programme.

A twelve week consultation is proposed to allow hackney carriage, private hire drivers and other interested parties to comment on future driver training requirements.

For more information you can read the full Licensing & Appeals Report of 30 August

The City Council would welcome your comments on future training requirements for existing and new Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Drivers.

The closing date for the consultation period is 2 January 2012.
The answers you provide in this questionnaire will be used to compile a report to the Licensing and Appeals Committee detailing a framework in relation to training requirements for new and existing hackney carriage and private hire drivers.
Please note that all data collected from the questionnaires may be used in a published report.
