Home contents insurance
Insure your belongings
Are your personal belongings insured against theft, fire, vandalism or bursts?
Your landlord does not insure these things, so you should take out your own cover.
Either make your own arrangements, or use the special Manchester Tenants Insurance Scheme run in partnership with Aviva (formerly Norwich Union).
The scheme
You can use this special scheme if you're a Manchester council tenant, or a tenant of any not-for-profit landlord (like a housing trust or housing association); as long as you live in the area covered by Manchester City Council - see map.
You don't pay any more because you have a particular postcode — our rates are the same wherever you live.
What's covered?
Most of your household goods and contents are insured — furniture, TV, clothing, carpets and electrical goods. Also covered are theft or loss of keys, freezer contents and your own liability to the public. You can pay a little extra to cover accidental damage too. Find out what's covered and how much cover you need.
There's no 'excess charge' so you don't have to pay the first portion of any claim yourself.
How much is it?
The cost depends on the value of your possessions. If you're over 60, the weekly cost starts at just £1.31 for insurance cover up to £6,000! If you are under 60 it starts at only £1.96 a week for £9,000 of cover.
