If you already live in Manchester and your new address is also in Manchester you can fill in an online form to let us know.
Once you have told us about the move, we will close your old account and send you a bill for any amount you still owe.
If you have overpaid, the credit will be transferred to the account for your new address or it can be refunded to you.
Your new bill will tell you what your new instalments will be.
How we work out your Council Tax
Council Tax is worked out on a daily basis. If you move from one Manchester address to another, you will be charged for your old address up to the day before you move and you will be charged for your new address from the day you move in.
Check current Council Tax rates here.
Example
You moved to your new address on 16 May 2012. Your old address is a band A property. Your new address is a band B property.
Your charge is:
- 45 days at band A (for 1 April 2012 to 15 May 2012).
- 320 days at band B (for 16 May 2012 to 31 March 2013.
To work out the charge using the above example:
The charge for your old address is:
£884.66 (band A annual charge) ÷ 365 days for this year x 45 days at the property = £109.07
The charge for your new address is:
£1032.11 (band B annual charge) ÷ 365 days for this year x 320 days at the property = £904.86
Add the charge for your old address to the charge for your new address to get the total charge for the year: £109.07 + £904.86 = £1013.93
