You can fill in the online form to let us know when you move to Manchester.
You should tell us as soon as as possible. If you tell us quickly we will send you a bill straightaway giving you more time to pay it. It must be paid by 31st of March.
How we work out your Council Tax
Council Tax is worked out on a daily basis. When you move to Manchester we will charge you from the date you moved in to your new home. Your old council will charge you up to the date you left their area.

Example
You moved to a new address in Manchester on 16 May 2012. Your new address is a band B property:
- Your old council will charge you for the 45 days between 1 April 2012 and 15 May 2012.
- Manchester will charge you for 320 days from 16 May 2012 to 31 March 2013.
To work out the charge using the above example:
The charge for 320 days from 16 May 2012 to 31 March 2013 is worked out as follows:
£1032.11 (band B annual charge) รท 365 (days for this year) x 320 (days at the property) = £904.86
Remember to tell your old council you have moved so they get your charge right.
