Research your family history online through Manchester City Council's Burial Records Service

This online service offers you the opportunity to search records of burials in Manchester dating back to 1837. Around 800,000 records are available relating to Manchester General, Gorton, Philips Park, Blackley and Southern cemeteries. The service is a quick and reliable way of researching family history and carrying out genealogy searches.

Manchester's burial records are an invaluable historical reference to our past and provide an insight into the lives of our ancestors. You can search records and view images of burial registers at the click of a button.

In order to perform a search all you have to do is enter some simple terms. You can enter as much or as little information into the search function, such as forename, surname, date of burial and cemetery.The more details you are able to enter the more accurate the search will be, but it is not essential to complete all the search fields.

Please note:

1. Although the system is live and operational not all records and corresponding images for all the cemeteries are currently available. Manchester General and Blackley cemeteries will be available to search shortly. The large majority of records and images for the three other cemeteries, Gorton, Philips Park and Southern, are currently available to search.
2. The burial records system does not use cookies to create a viewing history for individuals and as a consequence does not track which records have been purchased by individual users. To save a record and view again you will have to either save the deceased details page to your own computer as a web page.htm or print a copy of the page. By clicking on a record you have already viewed you will be deducted another credit, likewise by back tabbing to a previously viewed record you will be deducted another credit as the page will refresh into the browser.
