The role of Overview and Scrutiny

What is Overview and Scrutiny?

Using hands to make a point

Read the Overview and Scrutiny Annual Report 2009/10.

Overview and Scrutiny plays an important role in Council decision making.

Overview and Scrutiny Committees review decisions made by the Council and make recommendations to ensure that the people of Manchester get the best out of their public services. Overview and Scrutiny Committees also play an important part in helping to develop Council policies for the benefit of local people.

Committees mainly look at services provided by the Council but can also look at wider issues involving other agencies. For example the Health and Well-being Overview and Scrutiny Committee, which has powers to look at NHS services to help improve the well-being of local residents.
