Libraries Poor Law and Workhouse Records

Styal Cottage Homes

Styal Cottage Homes was founded in 1898 for the care of children under the control of the Chorlton Board of Guardians. It 1929 it was transferred to the Education Committee of Manchester City Council and closed in 1956.

Manchester Central Library holds admission registers and log books for the home, 1903-1956 (ref: Archives GB127.M66/84 - RESTRICTED ACCESS). We also hold log books for the home, 1904-1956.
