Equality in Children's Services

The Equality Standard for Local Government provides a common framework to tackle discrimination and inequality and sets up a way of working within local authorities. The Standard applies to:

Using the Equality Standard as a guide it was decided that equality work in Manchester would comprise of an overarching strategic group, which would be supported by four working groups, one for each equality area (disability, gender, race and sexuality).

Each equality area will also have a dedicated action plan, which will aim to improve the quality of life and life-chances of all Manchester's children and young people by maximising inclusion and combating inequality. An important part of this vision is to have a workforce that is representative of the population of Manchester.

Children's Services invites you to consider the points raised and how you can contribute to them. Contact the dedicated equality lead or, if you work for Children's Services, your service's representative on the working group with suggestions.
