Please note that the closure of Manchester Archives and Local Studies will start to happen from 25 February as a result of Central Library's temporary closure for renovation and refurbishment in Spring 2010.

Manchester Archives and Local Studies welcomes all visitors enquiring in person. Entry is free, but proof of name and address is required if you wish to consult any of the archival or rare material.  There is no need to book to use the Local Studies Library or the Microfilm Unit, as we have about thirty machines available. First time vistors wishing to use the Microfilm Unit should report to the Local Studies Library.

Please note that we recommend you book a place if you intend to use the archives section.

Opening hours: Monday to Thursday 9am to 8pm; Friday and Saturday 9am to 5pm. Hours for booking and viewing material in the Archives section are Monday to Thursday 9am to 4pm only.
