Exciting changes planned for Brunswick

7 February 2008

Local residents were invited to a view and comment on a display of the outline proposals put forward by three private partnerships bidding for the £100 million regeneration scheme for Brunswick.

The 25 year Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contract will improve council homes on the Brunswick estate, build new family houses and apartments, improve the area's infrastructure and provide a safe and attractive environment for people to live and work. Covering over 1,000 properties in the area, the regeneration improvements will start in Autumn 2010. Council officers, together with local residents and Councillors will consider the outline proposals and by the end of February will choose a short-listed group which will be asked to submit detailed plans later in the year. The final decision will be made in June 2009.

Councillor Eddy Newman, executive member for neighbourhood services said: "Tenants are very excited about the changes planned for Brunswick - this PFI will mean that people will get the decent homes they deserve in an area they can be proud of. Together we will be transforming Brunswick into a successful neighbourhood where people enjoy living, working and visiting. To achieve this massive change some properties will need to be demolished, but I can guarantee that all tenants and residents affected by the demolition will be re-housed in the area if they want to be."
