In the summer of 2003 Manchester City Council, Manchester Primary Care Trust plus community and voluntary organisations launched the Valuing Older People (VOP) Initiative. The first strategy was launched in 2004, the city has made important and significant progress in many areas, as outlined in the Update Report 2004-08. There is still work to be done and a new Ageing Strategy for Manchester is currently being developed.
The aim of the multi-agency programme is to improve services and opportunities for the city's older population. It challenges Manchester's public agencies, businesses and communities to place older people at the centre of the extensive plans for the regeneration and reshaping of the city.
