Manchester City Council

Not the TV programme but an attempt to extort money!

This Sunday I will be running the Manchester 10k to raise money for The Christie. It's two years since I've done the run and three years since I asked anybody to sponsor me and I won't be asking for sponsorship again for this event for at least four years. I appreciate that some of you will be raising money yourselves, some of you will be supporting other runners, and some of you would prefer to support other charities so please don't feel under any pressure. But if you do feel able to support the fantastic work done at the Christie both to treat Cancer patients and also to research new ways of treatment please sponsor me. The easiest way is online by going to but I will accept cheques made payable to Richard Leese or cash both via room 206, Town Hall, Albert Square, Manchester M60 2LA. I managed to complete the run in just under 43minutes last time, but I fear age is catching up with me and so I'm not expecting to beat that but with your support I will do my best,

Whatever the outcome it will be a fantastic weekend of mass participation sport in the city. The atmosphere as always will be brilliant so even if you're not taking part, come and cheer the runners on and enjoy a great day or two out.

I like the title of your blog 'Shameless!' The Manchester Run should be renamed shameful. It is a great shame that for the great run parking fees are not exempt especially as so many people are raising money for charity. I saw a lot of parking tickets on cars around the Cambridge Street area where there are single yellow lines, lots of people had left notes, I am running the 10k. Surely fees could be waived for one day? From somebody has regularly ran and raised money for this event.
