The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter helps employers create better jobs and improve working conditions for their staff.
It is a free and voluntary scheme open to employers of all sizes, sectors and locations across Greater Manchester. The Charter supports organisations to become better places to work and helps raise employment standards across the city region.
The Charter focuses on seven areas of good employment:
- Secure Work
- Flexible Work
- Pay
- Engagement and Voice
- Recruitment
- People Management
- Health and Wellbeing.
The Charter also promotes equality, diversity and inclusion. These principles run through all seven areas and help employers create fair workplaces where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
Real Living Wage
Paying the Real Living Wage is one way employers can improve employment standards.
The Real Living Wage is based on the real cost of living and helps ensure workers are paid fairly for the work they do. Employers that pay the Real Living Wage can benefit from better staff recruitment, increased retention and improved employee wellbeing. It also shows a commitment to fair and responsible employment practices.
Commit
Organisations can become a Supporter of the Good Employment Charter by making a commitment to improve their employment practices across all seven areas.
You do not need to meet all of the Charter's standards to become a Supporter, but you must be willing to work towards them.
Develop
Supporters can access events, resources and networking opportunities through the Charter.
These opportunities help employers learn from others, share good practice and make improvements that benefit their workforce.
Elevate
Organisations that meet the standards in all seven areas can become Members of the Good Employment Charter.
Membership recognises employers that have strong employment practices and are committed to continuous improvement.
