Have your say on alley gate orders
We are asking for your views on alley gate orders (PSPOs) across Manchester.
These orders help manage access to alleyways. We want to know if they should continue.
Why we are asking for your views
In 2017, existing alleygating orders were changed into Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs).
By law, these orders must be reviewed every few years. We must also ask the public for feedback.
The orders were last reviewed in 2023.
What these orders do
Alleygate PSPOs help to:
- reduce anti-social behaviour
- reduce crime
- keep alleyways safe
They limit access to:
- people who live next to the alley
- emergency services
- utility workers
- other approved users

What could happen next
We are not planning to remove the gates.
We are reviewing the legal orders that support them.
We are asking if the current PSPOs should:
- stay in place
- be extended for another 3 years (until October 2029)
