Trade catalogues

  1. Trade catalogues first appeared in the 18th century when there was an increase in trade and commerce. They were printed by retailers, manufacturers or wholesalers to promote sales by providing testimonials, instructions and detailed descriptions of products.

  2. What's available

We have a wide range of catalogues from the early part of the 20th century covering agricultural equipment, bicycles, clocks, household equipment, motorcycles, lighting and photographic equipment, amongst other subjects.

  3. How to access

Ask a member of staff in the Central Library search room if you would like to see the collection.

You can also look at items from the collection in the search room, please make an appointment (with at least one day notice).
