Kosovan refugees

  1. Brief history

Kosovan refugees first arrived in Manchester in May 1999.

  2. What's available

Some Kosovo refugees were settled at Barnes Hospital in Cheadle. Reference to this is made in Tony Kushner, Remembering refugees then and now (University of Manchester, 2006), pp.70 to 76.

The report 'Balkan briefing (part 4). Kosovo refugees in the North West region of the United Kingdom' by Iqbal Sram and David Ward was published in Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health (2000;54). A free copy of the report is available online. It briefly describes how the authorities in the North West responded to the refugees.
