  3. We wanted to find out how residents have been affected by changes to benefits and the introduction of Universal Credit.

    Universal Credit is a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) benefit managed by Jobcentre Plus. It’s a single monthly payment to help with living costs for people on a low income or those not in work.  

    Universal Credit was introduced in 2017 for: 

    • new benefit claims
    • people already claiming benefits and had a change of circumstances which affected what they were entitled to.
