Ward-specific objectives
Nature and Biodiversity:
- Help local groups improve nature in at least two green spaces by the end of 2025.
- Support local community gardens with volunteers and funding.
Young People:
- Give a climate change assembly in two primary schools by July 2025:
- One in Miles Platting.
- One in Newton Heath.
- Help young people from Newton Heath Eco-Youth improve the planters outside their office by the end of 2025.
- Help one new school join the Eco-Schools programme by July 2025.
Transport, Active Travel, Air Quality:
- Support local groups to create a green and blue walking route around the ward by April 2026.
- Run Dr Bike sessions at two schools and one community event by April 2026:
- One in Miles Platting.
- One in Newton Heath.
Things We Buy, Use and Throw Away:
- Help the community run five litter picks in Miles Platting and Newton Heath for the Great British Spring Clean by May 2025.
- Support one community venue to start a TerraCycle recycling scheme by April 2026.
Food:
- Run two cooking classes to teach low-cost, low-carbon meals by the end of 2025:
- One in Miles Platting.
- One in Newton Heath.
- Work with the Parks team to fix and reuse the raised planting beds in Brookdale Park by the end of 2025.
Homes and Energy Efficiency:
- Make sure all neighbourhood events include energy and debt advice by April 2026.
- Share retrofit tips and the government’s retrofit website at all events by April 2026.
Engagement, Raising Awareness, Influencing Change:
- Fund at least two local climate projects through the Neighbourhood Investment Fund by April 2026.
- Include a regular climate feature in every issue of the Miles Platting, Newton Heath and Collyhurst Community Newspaper by April 2026.
