Ward-specific objectives
Place and Infrastructure
- Continue to lead work with Britannia Basin residents and United Utilities. Together, we will move forward a resident‑led programme to improve road safety and green the area. By the end of the year, this will include planting twelve new street trees and delivering one Sustainable Urban Drainage installation.
- Work with MCC Highways, Sustainable Travel Team and local resident group SusCo Hulme to deliver the Vision Zero scheme in Hulme St Marys. This includes a new crossing and changes to street layout to improve road safety.
Green and Circular Economy
- Support resident‑led GBSC events in the ward. Over the GBSC campaign, we will aim to help deliver at least three events.
- Provide necessary resources to support recycling projects at Webster and Holy Name Primary Schools
- Support community food growing projects through funding and other support. This includes work in places such as Barracks Park and with groups like the Gaskell Garden project.
People and Communities
- Support resident-led environmental improvement projects across the ward. This includes the permaculture work on Warwick Street and an EU funding bid in Hulme St Marys for Sustainable Urban Drainage.
- Deliver the Make a Metre Matter project in partnership with the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, and J Parkers. The project will measure how small‑scale planting helps wildlife. Over the year, we will help set up Hulme Park as one of the monitoring sites and support the planting of dozens of new plants.
- By the end of the year, support Sus Co Hulme to deliver their GM Green Spaces-funded Blanchard Gardens project. Provide any additional funding or resource as needed to make sure the project is a success.
