Manchester City Council

Didsbury East

  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Place and Infrastructure

    • Coordinate Clean Air Day activities with Beaver Road Schools. This work will focus on reducing pavement parking and engine idling near schools. We will also explore a junior PCSO scheme with Greater Manchester Police to help pupils learn about road safety and respect for their local area.
    • Host a guided cycle ride and a cycle proficiency session for women and children. This will be delivered as a follow‑on activity linked to a future Active Street. The sessions will help people feel safer and more confident when cycling.
    • Host a launch event for the new Pocket Park at Parrswood. The event will include a spring bulb planting programme funded by the Your Neighbourhood Fund. There will also be community activities to encourage people to use and care for the improved space.

    Green and Circular Economy

    • We will work with People Place Planet on targeted local sustainability projects. This will include promoting shopping locally and sharing clear reduce, reuse, and recycle messages with residents and businesses.
    • We will support Friends of Fog Lane Park to set up a regular litter pick. This will take place across the year and form part of the park’s centenary celebrations. The activity will help keep the park clean and bring people together.
    • Work with a local group to organise a sustainable food workshop. The session will explain the benefits of seasonal and local food. It will also include simple nutritional advice to support healthier choices.

    People and Communities

    • Organise a Climate Fresk workshop with local groups. We will explore inviting Manchester City Council Highways and the Environment Agency. They will help explain how climate change links to local flood risk and what this means for the area.
    • Work with Didsbury Pride to help make their event more sustainable. This will include improving recycling options and hosting a climate action stall to share simple ways people can help the environment.
    • Create and promote an age‑friendly walking route in the ward. We will work with Friends of Parsonage Gardens as the starting point. The route will also include Fletcher Moss and the River Mersey. It will support safe, social, and healthy walking for older residents.
