Ward-specific objectives
Place and Infrastructure
- We will work with the National Trust and Mosscare St Vincent to deliver the Sky Garden project. This project will help create a green route through the area. It will support nature, increase biodiversity, and improve green spaces in built‑up areas.
- We will fund the creation of small pocket guides about nature. These guides will give simple tips on sustainable living and low‑cost ways to help nature and wildlife. We will share the guides and run nature and biodiversity activities at community events during the spring and summer.
- Work with partner groups and Council teams to look at how the rain gardens along the Chorlton Cycle Way can be looked after. This may include using Your Neighbourhood Fund money to support local groups. These groups could help plant, care for, and maintain the rain gardens so they stay healthy and attractive.
- We will work with a local primary school to run an event during Road Safety Week or around Clean Air Day. The event will encourage children and parents to walk, cycle, or scoot to school more often. This will help improve air quality and keep streets safer.
Green and Circular Economy
- Use funding from the Our Manchester Food Programme to support food growing and sustainable food choices. We will fund at least one food growing project in Chorlton by the end of the year. This will help people learn how to grow food locally and reduce their impact on the climate.
- We will work with Mosscare St Vincent to deliver a sustainable living event in the community space at their new over‑55s development on the former Chorlton Baths site. This event will take place when the building opens in late 2026. It will share simple tips on saving energy, reducing waste, and living well.
- We will promote sharing and reuse at events throughout the year. This will include community resources, the Chorlton Repair Café, Chorlton Bike Deliveries, refill stations, and food waste apps. We also aim to support one new community clothing swap event by March 2027.
People and Communities
- We will share our “Small Steps, Big Change” pocket guides with partner organisations. The guides will give clear and easy‑to‑understand advice on carbon awareness. They will also explain how residents can support nature and biodiversity in everyday life.
- We will support the Chorlton Community Garden to develop their space. This may include helping them apply for funding through the Your Neighbourhood Fund.
- We will work with Chorlton Good Neighbours to share clear and simple climate change information with residents aged 55 and over. We will use completed questionnaires to understand barriers and gaps in knowledge. This will help shape future work with older residents.
