Manchester City Council

Charlestown

  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Place and Infrastructure

    • We will oversee the creation of a new community garden in Charlestown by April 2027. The garden will give local people a place to grow food, spend time outdoors, and support nature.
    • Help people in the community to run two planting days before the end of 2026. These days will support the new garden and help improve local green spaces.

    Green and Circular Economy

    • Support Crosslee Primary School to start a food growing project by July 2026. This will help pupils learn where food comes from and how to care for plants.
    • We will run two Dr Bike sessions at community or school events by April 2027. These sessions will help people fix their bikes and feel more confident about cycling.
    • Deliver three community skip events in the ward by April 2027. These events will help residents clear waste safely and reduce fly‑tipping.
    • Deliver a cooking course for residents by April 2027. The course will focus on healthy food and simple ways to save energy at home while cooking.

    People and Communities

    • Support one new school in Charlestown to join the Eco‑Schools Programme by March 2027. This will help the school take action on climate change and the environment.
    • We will provide climate‑related advice at all Neighbourhood events to reach at least 50 residents. The advice will focus on simple ways to save energy and money at home.
