  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Nature and Biodiversity:

    • Identify area and funding for a living Christmas tree in Brooklands.
      • Target 25/26: Work with Friends of Sparkford group to deliver.
    • Support Sparkford Fields Friends Group.
      • Target 25/26: Attend at least 2 Friends meetings. Offer support with funding.
    • Identify area for wildflower planting.
    • Work to keep local areas clean, tidy, and free from fly-tipping. Encourage resident involvement.
    • Host a Keep Manchester Tidy event. Work with Wythenshawe Community Housing group to deliver a neighbourhood clean-up.
    • Work with Parks team and Friends of Sparkford to improve Chesterton Park.
      • Target 25/26: Develop Chesterton Park action plan.

    Young People:

    • Encourage schools to take part in environmental programmes. Support registration to the schools Eco Programme.
    • Promote Great British School Clean-up with all schools. Include ‘Keep Manchester Tidy’ campaign. Support schools to take responsibility for litter.
    • Promote biodiversity and natural ecosystems.
      • Target 25/26: Continue to support Pioneer House to develop the outside space.
    • Work with young people at Pioneer House to maintain planters around Sale Circle.
    • Promote and encourage local schools to take part in clean air initiatives. Include Road Safety Week.

    Transport, Air Quality, Active Travel:

    • Promote new local walking and cycling routes.
      • Target 25/26: Deliver Age Friendly bench route to connect Brooklands residents to Wythenshawe Park.
    • Promote air quality initiatives with local residents.
      • Target 25/26: Hold one Active Street (road closure) event.

    Things We Buy, Use and Throw Away:

    • Encourage re-using and upcycling.
      • Target 25/26: Support and promote sustainable fashion projects.
    • Promote the Refill Campaign across local businesses, communities, and residents.
      • Target 25/26: Encourage new refill locations to sign up.
    • Partner with Biffa to promote recycling and waste management.
      • Target 25/26: Attend at least one event with Biffa. Engage on reuse and recycling.

    Food:

    • Work with community groups and Wythenshawe Housing Group on Gather, Eat, Move funding.
      • Encourage healthy cooking options and reduce waste.
      • Promote Love Food Hate Waste campaign: https://lovefoodhatewaste.com.
      • Target 25/26: Attend an event with the smoothie bike.
    • Ensure all events hosted by South Neighbourhood Team include:
      • Low carbon options
      • Avoid single-use plastics
      • Consider food from local providers where possible

    Homes and Energy Efficiency:

    • Include energy efficiency advice at events.
      • Target 25/26: Hold an event which focuses on energy efficiency and green energy.
    • Provide residents with LED lightbulbs at events (where needed). Include Wythenshawe Age Friendly events and activities.
    • Winter Warmer Packs – Provide information and/or resources to support energy efficiency.

    Engagement, Raising Awareness, Influencing Change:

    • Encourage residents to think about ways they can tackle climate change.
      • Target 25/26: Take part in the Climate Change Community Connector event (led by Wythenshawe Community Housing).
    • Promote funding opportunities to support local climate action. Use social media, newsletters, and email networks.
      • Target 25/26: Ensure Neighbourhood Investment Fund is available for local community action.
    • Work with The Wythenshawe Regeneration Team and Muse to promote commitments to sustainability. Support aims to become a local Positive Energy District in Wythenshawe.
    • Encourage residents to think about ways they can tackle climate change and build resilience.
      • Target 25/26: Take part in a climate change event.
