  1. Clean, green and safer neighbourhoods make our city attractive. They help us feel better and safer where we live, work, study and visit.

    These are the projects that have been funded by the Clean and Green investment in your neighbourhood so far. The 'completed' projects were finished in 2024 and 2025. The 'in delivery' projects are scheduled for 2026 and 2027.

    Completed projects

    Erskine Road / Walker Road – junction safety

    ‘Give Way’ markings have been renewed and a ‘No Through Road’ sign installed to improve clarity for drivers.

    Various locations – new litter bins

    Five new litter bins have been installed across the ward. Locations include:

    • Chapel Lane bus stop,
    • Middleton Road bus stop outside Heaton park Gold entrance,
    • Chain Road - Lion and Lamb,
    • Former Plant Hill Police Station; and
    • Boothroyden Road.

    Munn Road – Grasscrete trial

    Grasscrete is being installed to trial eco‑friendly green parking bays together with H-bars and bollards to resident parking while maintain access, safety and protection green space on this narrow road.

    Bins

    All on-street bins across the ward have been replaced as part of the August 2024 to August 2025 programme, and park bins in disrepair are replaced in Plant Hill Park. Find out more about bin installation and the efforts to fight litter.

    Play area improvements

    Improvement works are completed in Plant Hill Park. Find out more about the play area and planned improvements.

    Heaton Park – main entrance

    New Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) bollards have been installed in March 2025 at the park’s main entrance to prevent unauthorised vehicles entering the site, improving safety and protecting the landscape.

    Projects in delivery

    Crab Lane Primary School – traffic management

    A package of Traffic Regulation Orders will introduce new double yellow lines and formalise a 20mph zone to improve pupil safety and deter pavement parking.

    Plant Hill Park – changing facilities

    Old cabins/changing rooms have been removed, and replacement facilities relocated from another site for use by junior sports teams. Work will be scheduled to create the new cabin to utilities and bring into use.
