You can request a refund to be paid into your bank account if your council tax account is in credit. This could happen if you have:
- moved out of Manchester
- been awarded a discount or exemption
- been awarded council tax support
- had the band of your property reduced
You can also request a refund even if the liable council tax person has passed away leaving a credit on their account. In order to do this however you must have proof of their executorship.
Proof can be uploaded within this form but it must not exceed 15mb in size. You can upload 'pdf','jpg' and 'zip' files.
Once you have completed the form we will consider your request within 10 working days.
We will only refund you if you do not owe any further amounts of council tax to us. We may use any credit to reduce overpayments of Housing Benefit. If we cannot issue you with a refund, we will write to confirm this.
We can only issue refunds to one person named on the council tax bill. We cannot make refunds to more than one person.
For payments made by credit or debit card, we will refund the credit back to the card where possible. If this is not possible, the credit will be refunded to the bank details provided on completing this from.
